Competition Rules


These are the official rules of the Handpicked Books competition - if you disagree with all or any part of them, please do not enter the competition.

    General Rules:
  1. You do not have to buy anything from Handpicked Books, although you must be registered on the Handpicked Books website to enter.
  2. The closing date of the competition will be published on the Handpicked Books website and Handpicked Books reserves the right to extend the competition closing date.

    How to Enter:
  3. Fill out the online entry form - failure to fill in the form correctly and completely will cause your entry to be void.
  4. Fill in an on-line book review of any book or books listed on the Handpicked Books site.  Every book review you do counts as one entry into the competition.  If you also bought the book from Handpicked Books then it counts as FIVE entries!  Do as many reviews as you like to give yourself more chances to win but remember that the judges will take your age and the quality of your reviews into account when choosing the final winners.  Select your choice of First, Second and Third prizes should your entry be selected.

    Drawing and awarding of prizes:
  5. Prizes will be awarded based on a random draw conducted by Triangulum Computers that will take place shortly after the closing date of the competition.
  6. Triangulum Computers will supply Handpicked Books with 10 random book reviews which Handpicked Books will rank according to the quality of the reviews.
  7. Prizes will be awarded according to ranking with the 4th to 10th placed entries being held in reserve in case the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed winners cannot be contacted.
  8. Neither Handpicked Books nor Triangulum Computers will accept any correspondence whatsoever pertaining to the selection of prize-winners.
  9. The prize/prizes Handpicked Books will offer a range of 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes which may change from time to time. Competition entrants will select prizes as part of their on-line registration.
  10. Prize-winners and/or their parents/guardians will be contacted either telephonically or by e-mail to ensure suitability of prizes selected.
  11. The competition sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value should the advertised prize not be available or be unsuitable for any reason.
  12. No cash equivalents or transfers of prize permitted except at the sole discretion of Handpicked Books.
  13. In cases where television receiving equipment is selected as a prize, the parents/guardians of prize-winners may be required to supply a valid television license or select an alternative prize.

    Eligibility:
  14. Registration is open to all learners who are full-time students of schools within South Africa that participate in the Handpicked Books program, as registered on the Handpicked Books site by Handpicked Books.

    Notification:
  15. Winners will be notified via the Librarian of the school indicated on the entry form. If the entrant is not traceable, the judges will award prizes to the next entry in line as detailed in 'Drawing and awarding of Prizes'.
